All computers brought to our offices undergo a basic diagnosis; the first part that’s tested is the Hard Drive. Often times the Hard Drive might only last 3 years, or in some cases even less. When it starts to go you might see programs not opening, Windows freezing, or in some cases a computer that’s unable to start.
Next the RAM undergoes a test, to make sure there’s not any obvious issues, if the computer has symptoms of faulty RAM, a thorough test might be done. A sign of faulty RAM might result in blue screens; when calling please mention any blue screens you get along with the error code. Having this information will help troubleshoot and help us give you a better estimate.
Next the computer is physically inspected, laptops might be partially disassembled if it’s required to diagnose the issue. Desktops will be inspected for any loose cables and to ensure everything is properly seated, if it hasn’t already been.
For software issues any log files will be inspected along with research for any error codes. Before proceeding with any risky software repairs a backup may be done and stored by us for up to 30 days, space permitting.
Due to the fact that in some cases the act of diagnosing the issue might fix the issue, we do require a deposit up front that would cover the cost of the basic diagnosis. If the issue will be more than the deposit collected you will be called with a quote on both time and cost. If you choose to get it fixed, the deposit you paid will be applied to the final bill, otherwise we will keep the deposit to cover the time spent figuring out the issue.
